Thatching has been in the Dodson family since the early 1920s. Chris first started thatching as a child, going to work with his father and grandfather. Starting full time after finishing his A-Levels in 1998,
Chris was trained in his apprenticeship, working on many new build properties, for Royal Sandringham estates, Marborough House for the Commonwealth Secretariat, Newmarket Race Course Trust, Greene King Brewery and many private properties. Chris also worked on a property which came second in the National Best Thatched House Competition.
Chris formed his own business in 2011 and has continued to expand since. Joining the National Society of Master Thatchers and the East Midlands Master Thatcher’s Association, we are committed to providing true Master Craftsmanship. We hold awards for our workmanship.
Committed to the future of thatching, Chris is involved in the National Society of Master Thatcher’s Apprenticeship scheme as a mentor to Apprentice Thatchers.
Away from thatching, Chris has completed an Honours Degree in Leadership and Management. He enjoys the countryside, walking and has a young family which keeps him well occupied. Molly the Spaniel can often be seen at work on the scaffolding.
